Police nab Immigration Officer after drugs found in his package

A St Michael man who is also a Barbados Immigration Officer is going to court today to face a slew of drug charges.

Police personnel attached to the Drug Squad arrested and formally charged Adrian Ricardo Beckles, 41, of Jackman, St Michael.

He is charged with the following offences:

  1. Possession of a controlled drug to wit cannabis 
  2. Trafficking
  3. Intent to supply
  4. Importation 

According to the release from the Royal Barbados Police Force, on Friday, July 17, Beckles went to the Customs facility at the Grantley Adams International Airport to collect a package. The package was searched by Customs Enforcement in his presence. It was discovered that the package contained two air purifiers. The purifiers were checked and 13 packages of cannabis weighing 10.5 kgs (23 pounds) were found.

Beckles was subsequently arrested and charged. 

He is expected to appear at the District 'B' Magistrate's Court in St Joseph today (July 21).
