Arthur passed away on July 27, at the age of 70. He was hospitalised in mid-July.
Arthur was Barbados’ longest-serving prime minister, leading the country from 1994 to 2008 under the Barbados Labour Party (BLP).
After the 2013 General Elections, Arthur — who was born and raised in the parish of St Peter — announced his retirement from politics and accepted the appointment as Professor of Practice: Economics of Development by the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus in 2018.
