Tridents forward, Nick Blackman, on the brink of history

One of Barbados’ football stars is on the verge of making history.
Barbados senior men’s forward Nick Blackman is one positive result away from being the first Barbadian to feature in the coveted UEFA Champions League.
Blackman and his teammates of reigning Israeli Premier League champions, Maccabi Tel Aviv will have to get by their Austrian counterparts Red Bull Salzburg if they are to end their five-year absence from the Champions League.
With Europa League participation already confirmed by reaching this Final Play-Off stage, Blackman said the continent’s leading club competition is where his club desires to be but recognizes the quality of the opposition and it will not be an easy task, however a welcomed challenge.
“This is a great test for us. They’re a very strong team in Europe and have played in the Champions League for quite a few of the last couple seasons.
Everyone knows [Erling] Haaland who was there and moved to Borussia Dortmund last season. They have fantastic players and it’s a great challenge, you want to test yourself against this level of opposition”, said Blackman.
Blackman has been in excellent form during the Champions League campaign, converting three times in as many matches.
He will need to replicate these goal-scoring heroics over two legs, as opposed to the single-leg encounters in the previous games.
Maccabi Tel Aviv will welcome the Austrians on Tuesday, September 22, then on Wednesday, September 30, the battle will continue at the Red Bull Arena in Wals- Siezenheim.
The match kicks-off Tuesday at 3:00 pm Eastern Time.
