Kobe's daughter posts message to Instagram for her father's Birthday
Many across the world paid homage to the late Kobe Bryant yesterday in honor of his birthday.
The former basketball legend would have celebrated his 42nd birthday on Sunday, August 23 and many in the sporting fraternity and across the world took a moment to pay their respects to the life and inspiration of the famed player.
His wife Vanessa Bryant, posted a heartfelt message that honored not just Kobe but the memory of their daughter, Gianna, who was one of eight who died in a helicopter crash back in January this year.
“Happy birthday. I love you and miss you more than I can ever explain. I wish you and Gigi were here to celebrate YOU! I wish I could make you your fav food or a birthday cake with my Gigi. I miss your big hugs, your kisses, your smile, your loud ass deep laugh. I miss teasing you, making you laugh and bursting your bubble. I miss you sitting on my lap like my big baby that you are. I think about your tenderness and patience all the time. I think about everything thrown my way. Thank you for growing up with me and teaching me how to be strong." Vanessa Bryant wrote.
Tributes from his daughter Natalia as well as athletes including Kobe's former team mate, Pau Gasol and Lebron James also garnered attention. James posted a video on his Instagram of him singing “Happy Birthday” to Bryant at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
“Happy Bday my brother!! Miss you man!! #LongLive🐍 #GoneButNeverEverForgotten💜💛,” James wrote.
Athletic wear brand Nike also put out a special commercial honoring Bryant with the words read by Grammy award winning rapper Kendrick Lamar.
For many life will not be the same without the icon and it is clear that people are still dealing with the effects of his loss to the sporting world.
